This is an introduction to my Narrative Project for Sabatino Mangini's English Comp 1 class. I have learned many things in this class in the past few weeks that have led me to this point. Blog post #3: Composing a Present Scene is where it all really started. In that blog post, I read What is Creative Nonfiction? (Lee Gutkind), Making Scenes in Memoir (Lee Martin), and My Name is Margaret (Maya Angelou) to help me write a scene that used first person point of view and present tense. I also used these readings to give me an idea of how to write a scene that appeals to the 5 senses. In blog post #4: Composing a Present Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism I wrote another Present Scene, but in this instance I incorporated a scene that is more relatable to readers by using dialogue and symbolism. I read Hills Like White Elephants (Ernest Hemingway) as an example of how to do this. This brings me to blog post #5: Composing a Past Scene which my Narrative Project will expand on. The scene is about me getting into some legal trouble that has had a negative impact on my life. But, what comes with every struggle in life is a learning experience. I will dive deeper into this scene in my narrative project. What You Don't Know (Lulu Wang) gave me an example of how to do this scene by showing me how write in first person point of view and past tense, being a main character in the scene, and having a beginning, middle, and an end. In blog post #6: Composing a Past Scene: Part Two, I expanded on blog post #5: Composing a Past Scene with more detail and increased dialogue. I used My Mother Gives me a Writing Lesson (Martin Lee) to guide me on how to make this proper expansion. For blog post #7: Found Poem of my Narrative Project, I made a found poem using words from my Narrative Project. I used the links What is a Found Poem? | Sample Found Poem | Visual Examples of Found Poems to really give me a better understanding of found poems and how to make one. This brought the class to blog post #8: Midterm Reflection where we were encouraged to make a vlog talking about the course so far and the narrative project was a topic that seemed to come up in everyone's vlog. For more information on what a vlog is refer to this link What is a Vlog?. After this vlog came another one which was blog post #9: Exploring Counterfactuals in which we were instructed to change the decision and outcome of the event. We were asked if doing this helped us cope with the event better and answered that question in the vlog. To see my answer, check it out. We used What is Fan Fiction -- and why is it making people nervous? (Stephen Downes) and Rewinding and Rewriting: The Alternate Universes in Our Head (Hidden Brain Podcast) to help us with this.
